| | Toby Hawkins, Independent Agent, says: | This 3 bedroomed, roomy farmhouse is full of character and has been painstakingly renovated. It has a lovely well-kept, low-maintenance garden with plenty of space. Just a short walk to the village along the disused railway, with further lovely walks along the river Vienne in either direction from the house. Poitiers, Limoges and Angoulême airports are all within an hour’s drive with excellent links to the UK, and from the TGV railway station at Poitiers you can be in Paris in an hour and a half.
| There is a fabulous dining/sitting room with a tiled floor, exposed beams and Poitevine fireplace with a wood-burning stove. The bright sunny kitchen provides a perfect area for producing delicious meals and has been beautifully kitted out. You will find some wonderful features including another large Poitevine fireplace and the original stone sink.
There is a big, bright shower room on the ground floor and a separate loo. Up the original oak staircase to the first floor where there are two huge, sunny bedrooms(25m2 each) with windows on both sides of the house, original fireplaces and fantastic views down to the river Vienne. There is a spacious and bright landing, part of which is used as an office. Up another set of stairs to the former grain store which is being made into further habitable space in the form of two rooms and a large landing space. One room is already a double bedroom which only needs a coat of paint, and the other room has water pipes into it and drainage, as the owners were planning to make a further bathroom but they have now decided to leave it up to you to decide whether you would prefer a bathroom or a fourth bedroom.
There is a large workshop and boiler room beyond the kitchen, with hints of its former life as the village forge, and a garage with a mezzanine floor above, as well as a couple of hen houses and, at the other end of the house, a bread oven in need of renovation. The garden is gorgeous and feels large, although it is not so large as to be a worry if you only wanted to use this as a holiday house.
There is no shortage of amusements in this area, apart from many local markets, restaurants, chateaux and gardens to visit in the vicinity, the medieval market town of Chauvigny is about 15 minutes drive away, where you can explore the castle, ride on the velo-rail and watch the famous ‘Geants du Ciel’ huge birds of prey perform for you. Futuroscope is about 40 minutes by car and monkey valley at Romagne, snake island at La Trimouille and, just opened this summer, Crocodile Planet at Civaux are all within an easy drive.
