| | Joanna Leggett, Independent Agent, says: | | Steeped in history, this ancient chateau has kept its magnificient features throughout. The original plans were drawn up in 1542. A wonderful home that would make a fabulous boutique hotel. | The chateau once a rich gentlemen's Manoir is full of history. It is set amonst beautifully maintained private grounds of around three and half hectares. There is a long sweeping drive up to the chateau, which passes the maison de guardians house to the fine entrance. Here you can see the wonderful balconies of some of the first floor bedrooms. To the right of this is the very large summer house, which consists of two/three bedrooms, kitchen, salon, garage and barn. There is a pathway that leads up to the large private pool of 15 x 6m2 and terrace area, all with lovely views.
Inside the grand chateau, there are many fine stone fireplaces, old stone floors and leaded stainglass windows. There is wood panelling in a lot of the rooms and huge reception rooms, four in all. On has a unique, hand crafted wooden floor, made from three different types of wood, the marquetry is amazing.
The kitchen is 20/25sq with a back kitchen of 10sq m, but could easily be extended or moved to one of the grand salons. There is a sweeping oak staircase that leads upto the first floor. This consists of four bedrooms, two with private balconies and two bathrooms.
There is an upstairs salon with a huge stone fireplace, fit for a castle and dates back to the original part of the house constructed in the 16th century. From here there is also another stone staircase with original stone walls that leads down into one of the drawing rooms.
The Chateau although needing some cosmetic updating is in good order and perfectably habitable, it is a pleasure to visit.
It is set on a hill and overlooks the local town and has long views across the countryside. The guardians house consists of two bedrooms and provides good living accomodation for a guardian or extended family.
There is a large garage with a large room above that could be converted into an apartment.
A truly great place, with a long history that the current owner is happy to provide details on.
