The gite is a good sized house, with currently just one large bedroom and another in the huge lounge. There are three floors to the house all easily accessible and could easily be converted into a large four bedroom gite. There is a good sized dining area and kitchen on the ground floor, ample storage in the barn and lovely terraced areas on all levels in the gardens. It's really pretty, and if I was on holiday, I'd be really happy here!
Opposite this are the two artist studios which the current owners (Dutch artists) hold painting lessons. It's a peaceful place, with lots of interesting views to paint. Very bohemium in style.
Then there is the main house, converted from the old barn. It has a light and airy feel to it, with a lovely large open plan lounge/ kitchen dining area and high ceilings. Great feeling of space and yet cosy for the winter months. Through from the large open kitchen is the hallway and downstairs bathroom, with a good sized hallway that could form a study area if necessary. The hallway could be exended easily into the barn adjoining for further habitable space on this level. Upstairs is one huge bedroom and WC, with doors to the raised garden on this back end, another store house and private terrace area for the owners.
There is also another studio area off from the bedroom which again is huge and could be again converted into further accomodation.
Opposite the main part of the house are the two undercover area terraces, these have to be my favourite parts, you could just sit there all day, with friends or alone admiring the fantastic views, sipping the local 'vin rouge' forgetting about time altogether, it's like being inside a picture postcard.
Going up the hill along a little gravel drive and path is the barn used for the campers. This consits of an undercover games/eating area and a WC and shower area, all in good condition and ideal for campers. Next to this is the splash pool and following up the gravel path, through the beautifully maintained gardens is the second gite.
This gite is small and private, ideal for couples on holiday wanting to relax or couples passing through, perhaps property hunters? It consists of one bedroom and shower room and open plan kitchen/diner and living area and an outside undercover terrace area. Really pretty, and as most gites are large, this caters for couples at a reasonable price!
Beyond this and further up the track is the wild meadow and camping area, suitable for tents and camping cars, having great views too of the countryside.
A great welcoming place, with amazing species of plants that I loved! It's not your bog standard gite complex, it's very arty and unusual, go there with an open mind....
It is near to the village of Villars which has all local amenities and is also close to Brantome and Nontron, great tourist areas in the summer. It is in a hamlet so not totally isolated which is good, although you are totally private.
There is lots of potential to extend and renovate further here, but it is perfectly habitable and comfortable as it is.
Well worth a view!
